Mirrors - MSM

A manoeuvre is a change in speed, position or direction. Before you perform a manoeuvre you must first check your mirrors, then signal, then manoeuvre - Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre.

When turning right, you must check your rear view mirror and your right wing mirror. These mirror checks are important, especially if you're altering your position drastically for the turn. An early mirror check will inform if it's safe to go and when you should put your signal on.

Warning - Failure to check mirrors could result in dangerous mistakes. It's important to know what's going on around you in case you need to react to other vehicles.

WHEN TURNING RIGHT, WHICH MIRRORS SHOULD YOU CHECK AT THE START OF YOUR MSM ROUTINE?

Before turning right, you should first check your rear view mirror and then your right mirror to be sure that it is safe to turn. It will also help you decide when to signal. Your mirrors should be used well before you signal or change direction or speed. Remember: Mirrors - Signal - Manoeuvre - HC rule 161.
